  4. 1)My first reactions to this tragedy were, "why is there so much sin in this world, why would someone want to do such a thing to runner that worked so hard, first the shootings now bombings."

2)It think that it is true there are more good people in the world, but the bad people are hurting the innocent good people. I think that it is very brave and caring for the people to take in the wounded and give them a place to sleep with food.

    3) No, I don't think that this is naturalism, or survival. I think that it is a bunch of bad messed up people. These people I believe are just killing people, because they want to kill. This shouldn't be happening, it isn't normal.

  6. The people in Boston offered their homes to strangers. A bomb is not a natural thing that occurs in nature.

  7. My first reaction is why would someone want to kill a bunch of people or plan to?I think Zuker is saying that there are more good people willing to offer than bad people trying to kill.I see this event tied to our study of survival because of naturalism, and how they believe in chance.People were at the wrong place at the wrong time. So, yes, this would fall under the category of Naturalism.According to the article, it says that there were people that were done and standing there. So, those people could have been injured or killed if they would have been slower.

  8. What was your first reaction to the tragedy?
I hadn't heard of what happened till 4th period Social Studies class and I must admit that I was shocked and a little bit scared, since Mr. Singleton told us that they didn't know who caused it or why and that the case is under high surveillance. I think that what the person in saying that quote is trying to say that there are people who don't care but because of what happened they are ready to help when needed. I think that the Boston Marathon Explosion could fall under the category Naturalism because the article states that people quickly rushed to help anybody who didn't have a place to stay or somewhere to eat.

    1. So explain a little further .... How do you see this event tied to our unit on survival?

  9. 1.)My first reaction to the tragedy is why. What did all these people injured do to deserve that. At the moment I Know their is only three people confirmed killed, but that's not the point. There is at least 100 people that are injured and almost half of them are in critical care and are at risk of dying. If this was a joke by a local what a great joke right.

2.)In this quote I see someone trying to point out the bright side of a bad situation. I think he is completely true, and that everyone should always try there best to look at the positive side like Zuker has.

3.)I find this involved with survival, because It something that just occurred out of no where and when it first happened that was the first thing on everyone's mind. All these people wouldn't just keep walking like it's a regular day they'd scream and run from what had just gone on. I don't think this is related to Naturalism, because It's just a random event that happened and some "dumb" people Who probably thought it was funny and it definatley was not.

  10. My first reaction to this tragedy was shocked. I was shocked that someone would do this on such a good day in Boston. It was Patriots Day a time to celebrate not to have chaos.
My reaction to the quote is that it is true. People from all over Massachusetts and other states were offering for runners to stay at their house for the night. There are many more good people than there are bad, but some people can act dumb and do something like this.
This event is tied to our study of survival because after people heard and saw the bombs the runners and spectators went into to shock and then went into survival mode. This could fall under the category of naturalism because the people at the event went into to survival mode at felt the need to survive.

  11. My first reaction to the bombing in Boston, was that, people were getting hurt and I was crashed to hear about that 8 year old's death. I was so sad and some people from our town were there, I was worried for them.
I agree with Zuker. There is so many more good people in this world then bad. What I don't understand is, why are bad people trying to kill innocent people, when they innocent people didn't do anything to them. I believe it was very caring for people to help out runners in Boston, such as, giving them a place to stay, food, clothing and anything else to help.
No, I don't think that this was naturalism. I think bad people were messing with innocent people for no reason. I also think that the bad people messed up big time for doing this. I think the bad people were mad and were just killing people because they just wanted too. This bombing in Boston should have never happened. Innocent people were killed because some bad person just wanted to kill people!

  12. 1) What was my first reaction? Well, my first reaction was "Who would do this?!?". My second reaction was "I am so happy that people are trying to help out."

    2) What do I think about this post? Well, I think of it as it meaning that good people have better features to them than bad people.

    3) NO, I don;t think this is naturalism or survival. I mean someone trying to hurt people isn't survial at all, I think it's murder and know it is. I understand that there are cruel people but, this is getting out of hand.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1.) My first reactions to this tragedy was: Why would someone ever do this to people that hasn't even hurt you. I think to myself, How is it possible to be this brutal to people?

2.) The reaction that I had about the quotes were being amazed that people are that generous. When people ask for help out of the blue, the they are usually denied because the other person is scared of them.

3.) I think this goes with our study in survival because this is man vs. man. When people go against each other then you are struggling for survival.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1) I felt destroyed because the people that died didn't deserve to have their lives taken away from them. 2) I say that you can't that their are more good people than bad people till you've met everyone in the whole entire world. 3) It involves trying to live with interference from nature and bad people and things, I think that it falls under Naturalism because they have to run and survive.

  15. 1)My first reaction was why would they doo something that far people were just enjoying the marathon and participating in it and then all of a sudden there is was an explosion when the contestants were nearing the finishing line the explosive device blew up and the contestants got hurt 3 people got killed and the others were just injured.

  16. 1. I think that it is sad because people died and a lot of people got heart.

    2. I think that people are just trying to be nice and let people that need a place to stay that can have on.

    3. I found that it was survival, because it something that people had on there mind and they where trying to be nice.

    1. Why is your reaction surprising? Explain

      Delete
  19. 1. My reaction to this tragedy was shocked, unfair, scary, and sadness. When I heard about this tragedy I though it was unfair because it was innocent people that haven't done anything. One of my feelings was sadness because some family lost children, adults, and siblings;I was shocked because an 8 Year old boy was killed in that terrifying explosion.

    2. My reaction to this quote is,outstanding, and surprising. In my opinion I think that this quote is trying to explain that their is more people that are wealthy, good, and are a great example to represent others, but than it says that their is more good people then bad people. In my opinion I think that the bad people make bad choices, and will not go farther in their life or future.

    3. No,I do not think the situation falls under the category naturalism because people were killed and injured.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1)My first reaction was in Shock because I don't know why someone would do this.

    2) According to the quote "There's more good people out there than bad people," Zuker says. "And it's way more. The scales aren't even close." I was surprised by this quote.

3)I think that it is survival because this is just like man vs man.

  21. My first reaction to this tragedy in Boston was surprise, shock, and confusion. I was surprised that something like this happened to these innocent people on this great day. I was shocked that this even happened and that someone had done this to these people. Lastly, I was confused about why someone would even do this and what kind of person could do such a terrible thing. My first reaction to this tragedy was surprise, shock, and confusion.
In the article written about this tragedy, there was a quote by Jonathan Zuker explaining the good that has come out of this, and how there were many more good people in Boston than the few evildoers who caused this terrible tragedy. My first reaction to this quote was happiness and relief. I was happy to hear of the many good people working to help fix the terrible tragedy the few evildoers had caused. It is just heartwarming to hear these kind of things happening in the world we live in. I was relieved after hearing about all of the good that had come from this tragedy and all of the good people who make up our world coming together to fix this mess. My first reaction to this quote was happiness and relief.
I can really see this tragedy in Boston being tied to our study of survival. In this tragedy, there are people trying to survive the blast, survive the aftermath, and just survive the overall tragedy. I can most definitely see this event being tied to our study of survival. I also think that this real-life situation could fall under the category of naturalism. The theme, determination and survival, is similar as well as the conflict, which is "struggle for survival". In the article, they described people being determined to help the people who survived this tragedy, trying to help them stay well and survive. It is also the same conflict, with people struggling to keep themselves and others alive and well. The entire philosophy is also the same; Life is determined by chance, heredity, and environment. The chance of this event happening was small, but it still happened. We stay true to our family and heredity, trying to stick together and survive. The environment can cause some difficulties, with pollution, debris, and other nasty things left over from the bombs. I can definitely see this real-life situation falling under the category of Naturalism.

  22. 1) My reaction to the tragedy in Boston was that I was shocked that someone would do that, it makes me sad to know to see that people were really hurt.

2)My reaction to the quote was that it is true according to the article lots of people are helping the people that were injured so there is more nice people then bad people.

3)I kind of think it's both, because some of the people that got hurt are fighting for survival right now, but some of the people died.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1.) My first reaction was shocked. It is my reaction because I am wandering why someone would do something like this. Why did the people who were injured and killed deserve this and what did they do to the person who dropped the bomb.

2.)My reaction to this quote was surprised. This was my reaction because I didn't think so many people would open up their homes to complete strangers. They didn't even know some of the people that were in need of some where to stay. But it showed me that there are some caring people out there who care.

3.)I think this does with our study of survival because even though you don't know it is going to happen, you still have to fight for survival. You have to try and keep yourself from being seriously hurt. No, I don't think this is part of naturalism. I think this because it is something that just happened out of no where. Nobody knew it was going to happen. They were just running the race and 2 bombs explode.

  24. 1. When I first heard the news I had just turned on the tv when I got home from school and all I saw was people running and screaming in panic and all I could say was " What just happened" I was in total shock;Once some time passed I was able to function and think clearly. I was just devastated to think of how many Injuries and Now 3 lives have been taken due to such a inhuman and selfish act.
    2. "There's more good people out there than bad people," Zuker says. "And it's way more. The scales aren't even close."

What this quote is trying to say is that there are many good people out in the world only the bad people out there make actions that make it look as if there the majority but there wrong they aren't even close.

    3. This is kinda like naturalism , I mean things like this sadly happen and that's what makes up life but honestly It would be more like man vs man because nature didn't do this a person did. A human, one of us, aperantly a human who doesn't have a heart.

  25. 1. My first reaction to this article is sadness, and angry. I was angry, because it was very sad that someone would be this low to start killing people doing a marathon. That just sickens me, that someone would do that.
    2. My reaction would be that he is totally right. It is, because one or 2 people probably planted those bombs, while over a millions of people tried to provide the people with clothes, places to live, and even rooms, so then people could be sheltered in.
    3. I think that it is survival because this is just like man vs man.

  26. 1) My first reaction to this horrible tragedy that happened in Boston was that I was confused on why someone would do that!! I was surprised to, it's not like any of the people did anything to you!
    2) In the article given there was a quote by Jonathan Zuker saying that the good has happened out of this, also how there were lots good people helping this to fix it, what the horrible person caused. Some things are good that happen in this country. This quote gave me happiness and knowing that they are trying to fix this.
    3) I think that it is just like survival, because this is just like man vs man.

  28. 1. My first reaction about this was that I was scared, impressed, and surprised. I was scare because I thought it was something like terrorism. I was impressed because it looks like everything was planned that day. I looked surprised because I didn't see anything like this in real life.
    2. In the first quote I think that he means that there is good people out there to help the people that need it. Like in the bombing. There was a lot of people around them helping each other on everything they needed.
    3. I cant answer if it has to do with naturalism because I don't know if the bomb would have to be Nature Vs Man, Man Vs Man. But what I do know is it is fight for survival.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My first reaction to this tragedy was a feeling of sadness, then hope. I like that quote and I think its true. There are always going to be that one bad apple, but there are always many more good apples. It has to do with the life determined by chance part. I mean it was only chance that those people died. If they were some place else, then they wouldn't have died.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I was freaked out. It seems that when good people do bad things it could be worst than a bad guy doing a bad thing. People didn't see it coming and people had to react quick.

  31. 1.) My reaction to this was shocked. Why would someone want to do something like this. What did the people that were injured or killed do to deserve this. I pretty sure they didn't do anything to the people who dropped the bomb.

2.)My reaction to this quote was surprised. It was this because I didn't know people would just open up there homes to strangers. It shows that there are people out there who actually care about others.

3.)I think this goes with our study of survival because even though you didn't know it was going to happen, you still had to try and survive. If you got hurt from this, you would go into survival mode at like a hospital. You would be in critical care. No, I don't think this is part of naturalism because it is something that just happened out of no where. People were just running in the race, and 2 bombs explode.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My first reaction to this was 'Why would someone want to do this?' Some people have no rights to be doing this to people that never did anything to them.

I think that the quotes fit the article very well. The man knew what he was talking about and he didn't think that the person should have done it.

I think that this is tied to our study of survival because some people have to fight for their lives, and in the bombing, people had to run and things to get away from the bomb.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1. My first reaction to this tragedy was the thought that I could've lost a family member because my uncle was going to go but didn't and he would be finishing when the bombs went off.

    2. I think that the quote means that more people are good and nowhere near as many are bad. So he is saying go with your gut because more than likely that person that comes is going to be a good one.

    3. I think this goes with our study of survival because even though you didn't know it was going to happen, you still had to try and survive. If you got hurt from this, you would have to try to survive at a hospital.Yes, I think this is part of naturalism because it is something that just happened out of no where and people were running in the race, and 2 bombs exploded and they had to try to survive it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. My first reaction was confused on why any one would do that to so many innocent people.
    2. The quote made me feel like there is a lot more good then bad people but still are some bad people out there.
    3. I think it would be in that category because it is nature but this is just a little bit more harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1.) I think that was horrible. I don't know why somebody would do that. Im not sure if anybody deserved this. I would help them out if I could. So many family and friends were hurt or even killed.

2.) I think what the quote means is that there are more nice people because they are just opening there homes to strangers. I think what he is saying about the bad people is that people won't help them they would just help them selfs.

3.) I don't think its survival because it took place in a city. I also think it could happen because if you were hurt and you couldn't walk or anything you can't do nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't even know how to react to this, I feel very sad about what happened, but I also feel angry at the people who did this. I dont think anyone should have the right to bomb civilians for no reason.
And I agree with the quote "There's more good people out there than bad people," Zuker says. "And it's way more. The scales aren't even close."
Because their are a lot more people who want to do good things then bad, this is why we have more people in government jobs then people who deal drugs or people who steal things and intend to hurt people.
And I dont even think this would in the study of survival either, because explosives aren't natural, and neither are terrorist acts. The number of terrorist acts in the US have gone up, I think that they are all related to each other, and that maybe there is a group we dont know about that is just out to destroy americas sense of security and freedom, I really want these things to not happen, im tired of mass murders and bombings appearing on the news, I want this to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My first reaction to this was that its very sad. I was sad that people do these kinds of things and its really depressing. Then my second reaction after reading the article was actually kind of happy. I think that actually this has done more good than bad because there is a lot of nice people out there.

I think that the guy is totally right. It really didn't really get in the news that good people were helping all that mad the news was that there were bombs. Nobody really thinks that there are tons of good people but there is.

I would say that this has to do with naturism because people are trying to live through this. Even though a lot of people didn't die or get injured the still are looking for a place to go and people are giving them places to go which is surviving.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My first reaction was what was going on. I wanted to know who did this and why they did this. It was also terrifying to think about knowing that bombs are being let off in our country. We don't know if this is people from in our country attacking or out of country.

I think the guy has a reasonable opinion. But there is also many bad people that are a lot more powerful than the good people. But there is a lot more bad people than there should be in our world.

I would say people battling for their lives in the hospital is what this has to do with survival. People in those hospitals have terrible burns and one person lost both of his legs. It would be hard to survive like that.

  47. 1. I was horrified when I first read this article. I heard that they may think that this is an act of terrorism. I mean that this could have been done by Al Qeuda or somebody in the U.S. did this. Whoever did this just know that you will be caught.

    2. Before I read this article I thought that this quote was totally wrong and that there are more bad people in this world than good. Now though after reading I do believe that are more good people than bad because when something like this happens more good people come out of it than bad.

    3. I believe that this ties to what we are talking about. The people who got injured were trying to struggle for survival when looking for people to help with there medical attention.

  48. 1.) My first reaction to this tragedy was terrible, I felt so bad for the family’s of people had to die in this situation and I feel so bad for the people that were just watching the race and then that just had to happen.

2.) I think this quote means that there are only good people in the world but just sometimes people make really bad decisions.

3.) this is an event of survival because right when that bomb went off people died and other people were really injured and had to try to survive until someone can help you and take you to get medical care.

2.The quote made me feel surprised because people let strangers into their homes, it shows that people care about each other.
3.I say that this is naturalism because people are trying to live through this. Many people are looking for a place to live and people are letting them live with them for awhile, which is surviving.

    3. It is naturalism because people survived and others tried to survive.

  52. This was surprising but cool. Because people were helping one another and it is surprising because why would someone do that?

  54. My first reaction was to think about what the families were thinking and how they were going to deal with the injuries of loved ones. It was very surprising and I don't think anyone, including myself, expected it. I think that the quote means there are a lot of good people in the world so don't focus on the bad. I also believe that it is a survival situation because you have to try to get away from the explosion and also, if you couldn't et away, try and fight through your injuries.

  55. 1.)My first reaction to this was why? Why would anyone do such a thing?

    2. This ties into the theme because so many civilians help the hurt people stay alive that is survival instincts. This ties in with naturalism because it was in human nature to help people that are hurt. They opened their homes for the people; they did all sorts of thing you don't see very often to help the ones who need some place to stay.
